The photos of the Black Bull do not do it justice. Godmanchester is one of the most beautiful, historic towns in Cambridgeshire, dating back to the Goths and Romans, and the Inn itself a historic coaching Inn with stables and garden to the rear. Our room, The Stirling named after an aircraft which crash-landed in Godmancherster in WWII, was large, comfortable and very nicely decorated. Food was only available in the evenings, but there were multiple charming cafes and restaurants to choose from within 5mins walk. Dinner was very good, lots of choice and low-key entertainment and special evenings in the Bar several nights a week. Even though the rooms are directly above the bar, things quieten down at around 9:30-10pm so there were no issues with noise any of the 5 nights we stayed. Wifi was superfast which was great for work as there was no difficulty with video calls or screen-sharing. We will definitely be back and are already looking forward to our next stay and exploring more of the beautiful Fenlands and waterways around Godmanchester.

Clean and comfortable, perfect for an overnight stay to break up a long drive. Note the rooms are quite small, so best only to take a small overnight bag rather than a case. We particularly liked that the rooms are named after local historic events and the stories are displayed in the rooms, a unique touch. We stayed in Pathfinder and Epsilon rooms. Having grown up nearby, I hadn’t realised there was so much history associated with this small village! So our short stay turned out to be quite educational! We also ate dinner here and whilst the menu is standard pub fare, it tasted very fresh and was nicely presented. As it was a beautiful sunny evening, we were able to enjoy the lovely beer garden followed by a relaxing walk along the river to Godmanchester locks.

We found the pub easily enough, check-in was straightforward and they were serving dinner that evening so we ate there. The staff were friendly, the portions large (esp. the children's), and tasty. Although our room was in the main building it was much quieter than other pubs I've stayed in with similar arrangements. Although the room was small, the bed was really comfortable.

Breakfast was not available. The room was clean and comfortable and well stocked. We were at the front so had some noise from late drinkers - only to be expected. And early morning traffic. We liked the town very much and only had a 10-15 mins walk into Huntingdon where there were more eating options. Location good for the river and other walks.

Great value for money below £50 for 1 night stay so very suitable for community key workers, staff very polite and welcoming, clean and tidy room. Didn't get chance to try food but must be amazing if the smell was anything to go by very tempting unfortunately by time I arrived it was too late for roast.
